Archetypes
The psychiatrist Carl G. Jung recognized dream symbols that had similar meaning among his patients. Dr. Jung believed these archetypes are present in people’s dreams in every society or culture. According to him, archetypes are a part of the collective unconsciousness of the entire human race. The collective unconscious consists of archetypes that represent an inherited set of beliefs and understanding. Therefore, when they appear in a work of art, they reveal that the artist has managed to tap into that collective unconscious. In this series Valiente is able to capture several of the major archetypes: Shadow, Self, Rebirth, Wise Old Man, Mother Earth, and Persona.

Mother Earth
The mother archetype is an idealized perception of the mother. It represents what humans want a mother or primary nurturer to be. The archetypal mother has been with us since the beginning of time and past down in storytelling, mythology, folklore, culture, and religion. Some of the characteristics given to her are nurturing, selfless, protector, and provider for their children at any cost to themselves. Names given to her through out time are Mother Nature, Mother Earth, giver of life and birth, fertility, and devouring mother. (selfishly loves her children rather than selflessly)
